Hold Back the Tide

by Melinda Salisbury

This book really took me by surprise. The story hooked me from page one and I could not stop reading. The atmosphere and the vibe of the book seem very dark and grim but in an almost cool way.

This book ist about Alva, who lives alone with her father in Ormscaula. Alva knows that her father has done something awful. Out of fear she does not confront him and decides to live alongside him until it is time for her to escape.

The story takes place at a small and reclusive village – monsters included. I almost don’t want so say more because I feel like it will take away from the story. This book has great characters and a gripping plot. The angsty and creepy vibes add such an original vibe to the story.

The writing style is easy to follow and Alva as our main character is a great and reliable narrator. I will definitely reread this again soon!
